Self-defense courses built around steady, everyday confidence

Orrinth teaches self-defense courses in Richmond Hill: private sessions, a twelve-week group programme and a six-month mentorship, each built around awareness, movement and calm, direct communication rather than any promise of an outcome.

Classes run from our training space on East Beaver Creek Road, with evening hours that fit around work and school. No prior training is assumed in any course.

The three courses, start to finish

Every course below is the full priced offer. Nothing is held back for a sales call.

Private Intro Session Pack

CA$260

Three one-on-one hours with a coach, shaped around your goals: steadier awareness habits, a posture that reads as settled rather than anxious, plain verbal boundaries, and a small set of releases that fit your daily routine.

Each session opens with a short conversation about what felt useful last time, then moves into practice at a pace you set. There is no group to keep up with and no set curriculum beyond what helps you specifically.

  • A personal practice summary after each session
  • Flexible scheduling around your week
  • Studio or a quiet park location, your choice

Who it suits: Beginners who would rather start one-to-one. Duration: 3 private sessions of 60 minutes, booked flexibly.

Depth Zone Fundamentals

CA$740

Twelve weeks of group training that moves through stance work, releases, striking basics, ground movement and calm verbal communication, with each month built around one depth zone of skill rather than a loose mix of drills.

Classes run in groups of eight to twelve so coaches can still watch individual form. Nothing here depends on prior experience; the first weeks are deliberately slow before the pace picks up.

  • Loaner gear for every class
  • A monthly written skill summary
  • A short final review session

Who it suits: Beginner to intermediate, training in a small group. Duration: 12 weeks, two sessions per week, 75 minutes each.

Tidepool Mentorship

CA$1,345

A six-month blend of group classes and regular private sessions. A coach follows your progress across the whole programme and adjusts the plan as your confidence and movement vocabulary grow.

This is the deepest of the three courses, built for people who already know they want to keep training past a single course and would like a structured relationship with one coach rather than a rotating roster.

  • Six private coaching hours across the programme
  • Monthly mentorship check-ins
  • A training apparel set

Who it suits: All levels, for learners who want sustained coaching. Duration: 26 weeks: two group sessions per week plus monthly private hours.

Lead times and access

Group intakes open monthly; private sessions can usually start within a week.

Booking window

Private sessions are usually available within five to seven days of your first message, subject to coach availability.

Group start dates

Depth Zone Fundamentals opens a new group roughly once a month; we cap group size to keep coaching attention per student reasonable.

What to bring

Comfortable layered clothing and a water bottle. Loaner gear is included in the group programme; private sessions use minimal equipment.

REEF — 05

How consistency is kept

The same small group of coaches teaches every session, and each course follows a written outline so progress is visible rather than assumed.

Every course has a session-by-session outline that coaches follow, so a Tuesday class covers the same ground whoever is teaching it that week. We review each group's pace at the midpoint and adjust the remaining weeks if the group is moving faster or slower than planned.

Private sessions keep brief written notes after each hour so a different coach can step in without you repeating yourself.

REEF — 06

Who tends to join

Most people who come to Orrinth are new to any kind of structured movement practice. Some are returning to activity after a long break; others simply want a steadier sense of awareness in day-to-day situations, at work or walking through the neighbourhood after dark.

A smaller group has trained before, in another discipline or years ago, and wants a slower, more deliberate return. Courses are paced for mixed experience within a group, so arriving with no background is the normal case, not the exception.

REEF — 07

Where we train

Classes run from our space on East Beaver Creek 165 East Beaver Creek Road and reachable by local transit. Most students travel from Richmond Hill itself, with a steady number coming from Markham and Vaughan for the evening sessions.

Private sessions can also run at a quiet nearby park when weather allows, by arrangement.
